Mindfulness Certification Curriculum

This 160-hour certification program is intended for health care providers and educators, social workers, mental health professionals and adults working with adolescents and interested in incorporating mindfulness and other mind-body practices into professional settings. This Meditation Teacher Training immersion program informs the participant through both informational content and experiential practices (including guided meditation podcasts, video library, journaling, scripting and recording meditations, and pre-post evaluation questionnaires). Learning materials explore the role of mindfulness in schools, health care and other community building roles, drawing on both ancient wisdom and modern evidence-basis.  Participants may choose from elective materials on the subjects of working with students, special needs children, cancer patients, people in pain, and in the treatment of diabetes.  In addition to meditation, participants are introduced to the practice and clinical application of other related mindfulness practices such as breathing exercises. Experiential practice cultivates a deeper self-practice, and builds the foundation for teaching group and one-on-one sessions.

This program is Co-Sponsored by the National Association of Social Workers/NASW, and offers up to 24 hours of CE's to therapists and social workers.  CEU's are also offered through Yoga Alliance.

Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Course Objectives:

  • Prepare students of meditation to become teachers of meditation.
  • Deepen and strengthen students personal practice.
  • Advance students to be able to relay the experiential qualities of the practice to others.  Whereas the meditation student may sit quietly with the struggles of the mind, the teacher knows how to guide the struggling student (and themselves).  Resistance is a common encounter in the meditation practice.  The teacher knows how to use resistance to create forward momentum.  The teacher knows how to language what they are experiencing as they are having the experience, without it disturbing the practice.

Participants in the course will come to know a wide range of meditative experiences, and how to guide others to and through these experiences. Participants in the course will:

  • Learn through journaling, scripting and recording your own guided meditations,
  • Be prepared to use the language of modern medical science the mechanisms of action of the practice, the active ingredients of the practice and the clinical outcomes of the practice of meditation.
  • Be able to provide practical guidance and advice to others who wish to learn the practice of meditation.
  • Learn to use empathy, compassion and other forms of non-verbal and verbal communication to guide others into the field of awareness.
  • Be informed on the use of the breath and other mindfulness tools to restore presence in the field of awareness.
